Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
A possible Neolithic round barrow on Smerrill Moor. Excavated by Bateman in 1857, he uncovered a large limestone slab-built cist divided into two compartments. One contained a crouched female inhumation with a flint knife and a flint flake plus sherds of "two sorts". The other contained the remains of at least 12 skeletons plus scraps of burnt bone, some plain potsherds, and animal bones including the jaws of 2 dogs. However, the cist had been dug into previously, the contents being reinterred in a far from ideal manner. As a result, none of the reported associations can be regarded as reliable.
