Notes

A possible Anglo-Saxon settlement, comprising the remains of a sunken-featured building with finds dating to c AD 500 was encountered during excavation of a site between the High Street and the Round Moat. The remains of a buried pony (believed to be of a similar period to the building), an early Medieval ditch, evidence of a structure (either early Medieval or Medieval) and Medieval pits/ditches were also encountered. The site had been substantially disturbed by post-Medieval quarrying.
