Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
Where is the actual cross. I have lived here for 13 years. I am from houlston descendent of 350 years who travelled this drover road and happened to marry a cooper. 13 years on, after loosing my business to the politics of council, boundaries and heritage sites and national parks centres, And a influx of English heritage, who I may add can sell alcohol, and parking and cafe fees that ruin the good old family run business I wonder, the real heritage like the cross is forgotten. My children are coopers and while they are growing up I always ask, where is our cross?. To interested in parking meters and cafes to worry about the local people who have farmed, worked and invested their lives into the community, why is their no local inn you may ask, well, all the silly things like re routing the Cleveland way back to the cafe diverting from the original water quencher of a pub will do. My point was why has the cross not been put back? Several are in museums, they belong where they were erected. Forgive me but, really should the cross be not the most important thing on the hill, not a cycle path and shop.? I have lost the hambleton inn, if anything restore something back to its site. Find the coopers cross. Kind regards .
The Cooper Family.
