The nearest postcode is an aid to location, and does not necessarily reflect the actual address of the monument. Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
The monument includes three medieval shielings on Greyfell Common. One of the shielings is known as Standing Loan and is sited at NGR 6060 7990. It is a single-roomed shieling having maximum dimensions og 6.1 metres by 4 metres with its long axis aligned east-west. It has boulder footings with walls of drystone construction standing up to two courses high. Situated 30 metres north of Standing Loan are a further two shielings, one partly overlying the other. The earliest of the two shielings is rectangular in plan and measures 8.8 metres by 4.5 metres externally with its long axis aligned north-south. Only its northern half is now visible, the southern half being covered by the later shieling, and this has boulder footings protruding through the covering vegetation. The later shieling measures about 4.5 metres by 4 metres externally with drystone walls surviving up to 0.9 metres high. Scheduled.
