The nearest postcode is an aid to location, and does not necessarily reflect the actual address of the monument. Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
The monument includes a moated site visible as a water-filled ditch enclosing a central platform of dry land and an adjacent enclosure. Associated with this is an area of land where extensive ridge and furrow earthworks from the medieval period still survive. On the central platform, which is almost square in plan, are a series of earthworks representing the remains of building foundations. The moat and its enclosures are not considered to be the earliest features on the site as they overlie an area of ridge and furrow cultivation to the south of the moat.
