Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
Medieval homestead moat shown by excavation to date from the 12th century. It is up to 13 metres wide and 4 metres deep. It encloses an island 42 by 22 metres across. Maps show two fishponds to the north west which have now become infilled. The excavations found materials indicating buildings of 14th to 16th century date, these were demolished and the foundations grubbed up in 1870-80. Scheduled.
