Rescue excavations in 1966-67 at Brougham discovered over 200 burials mostly cremations dating from the 2nd to 4th centuries. Inscriptions and sculptures were also found along with pottery, glass, jewellery and an enamelled bronze cup. Neolithic flints and pottery present.
