A Post Medieval and / or 20th Century area of quarrying is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The site extends over an area that measures a maximum of 113m long by up to 97m wide and is orientated roughly south-west / north-east. It comprises a kidney-shaped area of disturbed ground which has been cut into a block of ridge and furrow and is therefore later than the cultivation (see SO 83 NE 73). It was probably dug to exploit a small outcrop of Arden Sandstone that forms the surrounding Towbury Camp (see SO 83 NE 1) and is shown on the geology map at this location.
