User-Submitted Notes

This kiln is closely associated with the history and heritage of Northfleet Harbour the original cement factories having been built close to the waters edge to take advantage of the transport of cement and raw materials by boat, the wharf due North of this monument was built deliberately as part of the cement factories infrastructure for exporting cement and the rail tracks used to transport the cement barrels to the Thames sailing barges can still be seen in places.
