User-Submitted Notes

This building stands in the Earl of Gainsborough's garden. Nicholas pevsner in THE BUILDINGS OF ENGLAND,(1960)wrote. "The Old Hall of the Noels, Viscounts Campden, Earls of Gainsborough, was burnt in 1810. The ruins still stand to the E of the church. They could easily be made into an extremely picturesque back-cloth. Large mullioned and transomed windows, especially the surviving front of the Hall: four lights and two transoms." There has been no change in the ensuing 50 years.

The building highlighted on the map is not the old hall but the new hall, which replaced the old one after this was burnt down. The ruins of the old hall lie between the lane leading to the church and the small lake just to the North of it.
