The nearest postcode is an aid to location, and does not necessarily reflect the actual address of the monument. Most scheduled monuments are not occupied buildings and have no postal address or postcode of their own. In rural and coastal areas, the nearest geocodable postal address may be several miles away.
Although Shrewsbury castle was once a defensive building it hass been a residential dwelling for several centuries. It's most famous resident being the Scottish civil engineer Thomas Telford who left an indelible mark on the county of Shropshire.
Today the castle serves as a museum for the Royal Shropshire Regiment but you can visit the grounds and Laura's Tower for free.
