Description

The monument comprises the remains of a barrow of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 25m OD. It comprises a roughly circular enclosure some 15m in diameter within a ditch approximately 4m-5m wide. The size and shape of the ditch and the absence of an entrance suggest that this cropmark represents the remains of a former burial mound. Immediately to the SE are indications of a palisade or other narrow ditch, possibly representing an earlier enclosure projecting from under the barrow.

Elsewhere in the field are traces of other barrows suggestive of a concentration of prehistoric funerary activity. The area to be scheduled encompasses the cropmarks representing the barrow and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 60m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
