Description

The monument comprises the remains of an unenclosed settlement and souterrain of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies on fairly level ground in arable farmland at around 150m OD. It comprises a group of features including at least two ring ditches and a souterrain. The ring ditches are approximately 20m in diameter, with ditches around 2m wide. They lie some 60m apart on the NW and SW parts of the site. To their E is a souterrain some 15m long by 2-3m wide. The background geology, comprising numerous ice wedge features, makes other archaeological features difficult to distinguish but there are numerous likely archaeological features around those which are clear enough to be described.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible remains and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is irregular in shape with maximum dimensions of 190m N-S by 190m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
