The monument comprises the remains of a palisaded settlement and souterrain of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs. The monument lies on the crest of a low hill, in arable farmland at around 100m OD. It comprises an oval enclosure measuring approximately 60m by 40m overall.
It is defined by two concentric palisade trenches with a probable ESE entrance. Inside these is a concentric ditch enclosing the N and W of the interior. Darker areas inside the enclosure indicate the survival of deposits associated with former domestic structures, including a souterrain, a semi-subterranean storage cellar, often associated with timber roundhouses.
The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible remains and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 85m as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. The site may be expected to contain information relating to domestic organisation and activities as well as the sequence of defensive construction.
