The monument is a settlement of the Iron Age situated on a knoll immediately to the E of a disused quarry adjacent to the public road to Dowlaw. The settlement is sub-rectangular, measuring 43m x 23m within a wall (1.6m across) linking a number of rock outcrops. The wall is accompanied by a ditch on the SE and SW. In the interior are the remains of at least three circular house stances. A square area measuring 70m (NE-SE) x 70m transversely is proposed for scheduling.

The monument has well preserved field characteristics and appears to be undisturbed. The boundary of the settlement is unusual in that it utilises natural rock outcrops. The internal features of the settlement are clearly visible and well preserved. Excavation would recover information of importance about the way of life of the inhabitants. Few settlements of this period survive therefore making the site even more significant. The monument is of national importance to the theme of Iron Age settlement.
