The monument is a settlement of the Iron Age which is situated in unimproved pasture on a low rocky knoll. The site is rectilinear and measures c. 58m x c. 43m within a wall which survives to a maximum of c. 1m in height. The interior of the settlement is occupied by a number of circular and rectangular scoops, probably house sites.
The area to be proposed for scheduling includes the settlement and an area around it in which traces of activity associated with its use will survive. The area respects the shape of the monument, measures 65m (NE-SW) x 65m transversely, and is bounded by the drystone wall to the NE.

The monument is of national importance because it is a well-preserved example of its type, which has the potential to enhance our understanding of settlement in this period. The importance of the monument is increased by the presence of several sites of similar date in the immediate vicinity. Taken together, these sites offer an excellent opportunity to understand the settlement, economy and development of the Iron Age and Dark Ages in this area.
