The monument comprises a defended settlement of the Iron Age situated in a clearing in a forestry plantation and measuring 53m NE/SW by 33m transversely within a bank up to 4.8m across and 0.5m high. The bank is obscure in the NW sector where it may be concealed by a modern track. There are suggestions of an internal division to the enclosure and a small rectangular turf structure in its E corner suggests re- use in the pre-improvement period. The area proposed for scheduling measures a maximum of 75m NE/SW by 60m transversely as delineated in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved example of an Iron Age enclosed settlement; it is of particular interest in relationship to the nearby fort of Castle O?er and the other Iron Age settlements of the area and with them it is of national importance for its potential contribution to our knowledge of economy and landscape organisation in the Iron Age.
