The monument is a cairn of the Bronze Age, measuring 10m E-W by 11m transversely and 0.5m high. It is bisected by a modern dyke. The area to be scheduled includes the cairn and an area around it in which traces of activity associated with its use may be found. It measures 30m in diameter, centred on the cairn, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a prehistoric funerary structure which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual practices.
