Description

The monument comprises the remains of a group of cultivation terraces. There are about 12 terraces. The best preserved four have scarps about 1m high, the others scarps generally 0.3m to 0.5m high. The working areas are about 6m across. These terraces contrast with the lynchet type of terrace found most usually in the valley. The area to be scheduled measures 430m NE to SW by 305m transversely, to include a substantial sample of terracing, including the best preserved examples, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a set of well preserved terraces which have the potential, taken with other types of cultivation remains in the area, to enhance considerably our understanding of the development and use of the farmed landscape.
