Description

The monument is a substantial burial cairn of the Early Bronze Age situated on the summmit of Cairnshee. It measures 23m in diameter and 3.6m in height. It has been slightly disturbed by the construction of small shelters from the stones but the burial deposits beneath the cairn will not have been disturbed. An area measuring 40m in diameter, centred on the cairn, is proposed for scheduling, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved and substantial burial mound which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial practices and the ceremonial activities associated with them.
