The monument comprises the remains of a large, well preserved lime kiln which was built in about 1765. The base measurements on its NW side are 7.6m in width with a stoke hole 2.3m high and 2.75m wide. It stands 8.3m high with a central shaft 2.5m in diameter and 5.0m deep now being choked with rubbish.
The area to be scheduled measures 35m NE-SE by 30m NE-SW, to include the kiln and an area around in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the kiln may survive.

The kiln is of national importance as a large and well preserved example of its kind; it is of interest because of the fine quality of the masonry work. It has the potential to enhance considerably our knowledge of early industrial buildings.
