This monument consists of a post medieval settlement and part of an associated field system. The settlement consists of five buildings, including a long house, two rectangular buildings, a kiln barn and a possible barn. To the E of the houses is a stone-walled enclosure and traces of rig and furrow are visible to the S and SE of the settlement. The area to be scheduled measures 180m E-W by 130m N-S, to include the settlement and an area of the field system, as shown in red on the attached map.

This monument is of national importance for its potential contribution to an understanding of post medieval settlement, land use and also the process of the Clearances in this area of Caithness. The settlement appears to form a single farming unit. The buildings on this site are particularly well preserved and incorporate important architectural information.
