Description

The monument is a farmstead of the period before the agricultural improvements comprising the turf covered foundations of a rectangular building 21m long divided into three compartments, lying in the S corner of a yard defined by a low turf covered wall. The area to be scheduled measures 90m E to W by 60m NNE to SSW and is bounded on the SW and SE by a fence (which is specifically excluded from the scheduling) and on the NW by a modern drain, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a farm building of the period before the agricultural improvements with well displayed field characteristics. It has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of pre-improvement settlement. Taken with the other pre-improvement remains in the area it has the potential to increase considerably our knowledge of the development of the agricultural landscape in recent centuries.
