The monument is a homestead of the Iron Age, some 2000 to 2500 years old. It comprises a simple oval enclosure delineated by a boulder- faced earthen wall, measuring c 25m NE - SW by 17m transversely. Within the enclosure are the remains of two circular houses, apparently of two different types. The area to be scheduled is circular and measures 50m in diameter (centred on the homestead) to include the homestead, and an area around it in which traces of activity associated with its use will survive.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved homestead of the Iron Age, which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric settlement. It is of particular interest because of its likely relationship to other monuments of broadly similar period but of different form in the area; together they have the potential to increase our knowledge of the organisation, development and use of the landscape in prehistory.
