The monument comprises an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date, visible as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs.
The monument lies in arable farmland at around 35m OD. It comprises a sub-circular enclosure with a diameter of approximately 55m, defined by a narrow ditch approximately 1m wide. This trench would have held a timber palisade of closely spaced posts that would have defined an enclosure containing at least one house and its outbuildings. Such palisaded enclosures are characteristic of the first half of the first millennium BC.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 80m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
