Description

The monument is an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date, visible as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 20m OD. It comprises a sub-circular enclosure with a diameter of about 30m, defined by a single ditch measuring about 2m wide. Enclosures of this type are characteristic of the Iron Age.

The area proposed for scheduling includes the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 50m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to an understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
