Description

The monument comprises a palisaded settlement of prehistoric date, visible as cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in pasture at around 15m OD. There is a circular ditched enclosure, measuring about 35m in diameter, with the ditch about 1m wide.

A palisade is a timber fence of closely spaced posts set into a continuous narrow trench. Enclosed settlements such as this are characteristic of the first half of the first millennium BC.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 60m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
