The monument comprises a standing stone with cup marks.
The standing stone is situated on the west bank of the Boltachan Burn, in open moorland. The standing stone is 1.1m high by 0.94m across at the base. On its SW face are 9 cup-marks, all about 2.5cm in diameter, and there is one cup mark on top of the stone.
Cup-marks are decorative circular depressions carved into standing stones, outcrops of bedrock and boulders, and are sometimes found arranged in patterns with other motifs. They are thought to date principally to the Neolithic and Bronze Age and to have been related to acts of ritual and religious significance.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the standing stone and and area around it, within which related material may be expected to be found. The area is circular, with a diameter of 10m as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to an understanding of prehistoric ritual practices. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
