The monument comprises a burial cairn of prehistoric date, visible as a turf-covered stony mound.
The monument lies in rough grassland at around 180m OD. It comprises a round cairn measuring about 11m N-S by about 9m transversely, standing to a height of about 1m. It is one of a group of three cairns in close proximity on this area of moorland.
Cairns of this type are funerary monuments dating to the Neolithic and Bronze Age. The present example may be expected to contain evidence for burial and related ritual deposits.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 45m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric funerary and ritual practices. Its importance is increased by its proximity to other monuments of potentially contemporary date.
