The monument comprises a later prehistoric settlement consisting of the irregular foundations of earth and stone structures, which are situated on the SE slopes of Ewes Hill.
The settlement complex measures about 91m from E to W by 55m transversely and is enclosed on all but the N (uphill) side by a rampart (3m wide) which has four, possibly five entrances. The internal structures are difficult to define but consist of a series of levelled areas and the probable footings for sub-circular buildings.
The area to be scheduled is subrectangular on plan and measures 140m E-W by 100m transversely to include the settlement and an area around in which evidence associated with its construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the attached map extract.

The monument is of national importance because it represents the remains of a settlement of unusual plan which has the potential to provide information about later prehistoric economy, agricultural practice and social organisation.
