The monument comprises the remains of a stone circle. It is already scheduled, but the precise area protected is not clearly recorded. This proposal remedies this deficiency.
There are only two upright stones, about 1.7m high and c. 20m apart. The rest of the stones of the circle were removed in 1810, but sub-surface remains of the circle and associated features are likely to survive.
The area now to be scheduled measures 40m in diameter, to include the surviving stones, the area once occupied by the complete circle, and an area around and between the stones in which features associated with the construction and use of the monument are likely to survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The monument is of national importance as a ceremonial site of the Neolithic or Bronze Age, which, despite its incomplete state, has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric ritual activity.
