The monument comprises a standing stone located on an E-facing hillslope 250m SW of Gaval and originally scheduled in 1925. As only the stone appears to be scheduled, this is a rescheduling to afford protection to the stone and also to the area immediately around it, which may contain associated remains.
The standing stone is 1.5m high and 1m wide, and is triangular in form with a straight face towards the NE. However, records indicate that this is all that remains of a recumbent stone circle described as 'pretty complete' in the mid-19th century. The monument relates to ritual activity of Neolithic or Bronze Age date.
The area to be scheduled is a circle measuring 20m in diameter centred on the standing stone, and including an area around it in which traces of activities associated with the erection and use of the stone may survive, as shown in red on the accompanying map extract.
