The monument comprises the remains of a stone circle approximately 400m northwest of Backhill of Drachlaw Farm. The monument was scheduled in 1927 and again in 1976, but the original scheduling inadequately defined the area. The monument is being rescheduled to clarify the extent of the protected area.
The monument consists of a massive irregular boulder approximately 3m long and 2.75m high with striking bands of quartz running around. At either end lie two smaller stones that may be flankers to the recumbent.
The area to be scheduled is subcircular, measuring a maximum of about 41m across, to include the remains of the stone circle and an area around in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the monument may survive, as shown in red on the attached map extract. The scheduled area is bounded to the NE by a field boundary, which is excluded from the scheduling.
