The monument consists of a chambered cairn set in a clearing in forestry plantings.
The cairn is of the Bargrennan group. It measures 17.6m NE-SE by 15.3m, and stands to 1.4m high. It was excavated in 1949. There is a single chamber, entered from SSE by a passage of the same width as the chamber. Several of the chamber roofing stones survive, apparently in situ rather than replaced.
The area to be scheduled is circular, 30m across, to include the cairn and an area around it in which evidence relating to its construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved tomb of the Bargrennan group, exhibiting clearly the characteristics of its class. Despite excavation, it is likely that there is still considerable archaeological potential, as has been demonstrated by recent finds of Neolithic pottery in a small disturbed area of the floor of the chamber. In addition, the body of the cairn will seal deposits with potential to provide information about past environment and land-use.
