Description

The monument comprises the remains of a prehistoric house, situated on the present day boundary between croft land and shared grazing.

The house remains take the form of an oval bank some 6m by 4m within a bank up to 0.6m high and up to 1m wide. Three large upright stones protrude within the interior, and several large stones show around the inner edge of the bank. A bank of similar appearance to that which defines the house runs off the the SE for 18m before fading out. About 5m W of the house is a rectangular platform some 7m by 3.5m, defined by larger stones around the edge.

The area to be scheduled is circular, 55m across, to include the house, bank and platform and an area around in which evidence relating to their construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as an example of a small prehistoric house with associated walling. It has the potential to provide evidence about prehistoric domestic architecture and economy.
