The monument comprises the remains a burial cairn, probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). It is situated on a north-east facing slope of the ridge on open moorland. The cairn consists of an oval bank of turf and stones measuring 12m east/west and 10m north/south by 0.3m high. There is no bank on the upper west side. The stones are spread over irregular areas on the north and south sides of the cairn, being spread the widest on the north side. In the middle there is a rectangular reed-filled hole aligned east-west measuring 5m long by 1.2m wide by 0.7m deep.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The monument is an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of both intact burial or ritual deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. Cairns may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.
