Description

The monument consists of the remains of a monastery dating to the medieval period. The site lies in the bottom of a small valley west of a stream whose course has been altered. The majority of it consists of a grass field. At its northern end is a low mound with a maximum height of 1m (on the southeast side). Part of the site has been excavated. A circular structure shows up as lighter grass in the lawn of 'The Grange'. There are no other visible features.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval ecclesiastical organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structure itself may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
