The monument consists of a 435 metre length of Offa's Dyke, a presumed AD 8th century boundary monument, and is located in the second field to the south-east of Rhydwen Fach. The dyke is visible as a 1.8m wide bank, measuring approximately 0.6m high with traces of a ditch on both sides. In the next field the dyke is still visible, but has been ploughed. In Coed Pen-y-gelli, the bank measures approximately 1.2m high. This section of the dyke ends in a mound.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of early medieval defensive organisation and settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. A linear earthwork may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
