The monument comprises the remains of an unenclosed settlement, which probably dates to the prehistoric period. It is located on the lower flank of Cadair Fawr overlooking the flat marshy area of Pany-y-gadair to the E. The widespread cairnfield of nineteen stone piles is interspersed with three hut circles (Items A, B and C). Each hut circle is defined by a circular or oval shaped stony bank. The stone piles making up the cairnfield (Item D) are mainly circular or oval in shape and measure from 2 to 8m in diameter and a maximum of 0.7m in height.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement organisation and social practices. The site is well preserved and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, layout, building techniques and functional detail. Paleoenvironmental evidence may also survive.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and the area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is rectangular in shape on plan and measures 440m N-S by 360m transversely.
