Description

The monument consists of the remains of a corbelled hut, probably dating to the medieval period. The building has been constructed by using large boulders at the base of the walls with smaller stones above them built vertically, then corbelled inward to be capped with a series of flat smallish stones.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement. The monument forms an important element within the wider medieval context and the scheduled area may be expected to contain a wide range of archaeological information, including chronological detail and evidence in regard to construction techniques. The corballed hut may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is a circle and measures 6m in diameter, centred on the hut.
