Description

The monument comprises the remains of Taylor's Pottery, known from documentary sources to have been working from at least 1750 until the late 19th century. The core of the site comprises the earthwork remains of the kilns, chimneys, drying sheds and blunging pits (pits where clay was mixed). Further related structures have probably been incorporated into the surrounding buildings and walls. The area covered by the original designation was inappropriate in terms of the earthwork core of the pottery (which may be expected to contain archaeological information in regard to chronology, building techniques and functional detail) and the scheduled area has been revised in order to rectify the original designation.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is irregular and measures up to 70m from NE to SW by up to 55m transversely.
