Description

The monument comprises the remains of a settlement complex of probable prehistoric Bronze Age origin (c. 2300 - 800 BC). The settlement is situated within an area of upland rough grazing. It is located on a level plateau between the Afon y Waun to the E and the Nant Llywarch to the W. The settlement comprises of a complex of structures including two hut platforms (Item A), five hut circles (Items B, D and F), an enclosure (Item C) and linear stone piles (Items E and G). The settlement structures are all constructed from rubble stone walling.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric land use, settlement and economy. It is well preserved and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, layout, building techniques and functional detail.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is rectangular in shape on plan and measures 200m N-S by 120m transversely. It is centred on NGR SN 96828 16568.
