When i was young we used to play around this area i know it was crazy but we did. At the bottom of the rake there was a very deep mine shaft it was oval and nearer the bottom it narrowed the sides sort of sloped down to the narrower shaft,we also found a side shaft. i think this is were you must have gone in i bet its still open because it was crouching hieght years ago , because this man told use there was a horse gin at the side which you can see were it was,i went up there a year ago i see they have caped it now , there one at the top of the rake they did not find thou , hope this might be of interest to you,Roger Miller.
