User-Submitted Notes

The line of the old town ditch and bank (fosse) which surrounded Tonbridge Castle in mediaeval times can be seen at the north end of the town. It's most extensive part runs from the High Street end of Lansdowne Road along the gable end of the houses in Fosse Road to the end of the footpath which emerges at Stafford Road. Across the road in the grounds of Slade Primary School more of it can be seen. At the moment the Fosse is waste ground with self-seeded trees covering most of it. Plans are in progress to develop the land immediately next to it.

Although archaeological investigation has taken place nothing of note has been found.
