Rokan Stone at NZ 72984 02936

In this view of the Rokan Stone at NZ 72984 02936 taken in mid April 2013 we are looking down towards Glaisdale .
It has the name Rokan Ston (sic) inscribed on the south face otherwise little else is known of this stone. It is possible that it is an ancient standing stone that has been utilised as a waymarker as it stands along side an ancient route known as the Cut Road . It is tall enough that it would have stood out when the moor was covered in snow. Also fog in these parts used to be known as roke or roak so maybe when one was stumbling around in dense fog ( very common on the moors at certain times of the year) and they came across this stone it would help guide them on their way
