The monument consists of a Neolithic Orkney-Cromarty chambered cairn measuring about 20m in diameter. The rectangular chamber measures 5.2m from NE to SW by 1.5m transversely. The entrance passage to the SE of the chamber is flanked by a portal stone and two facade stones. The monument to be scheduled includes ground in which traces of activities associated with construction and use of the cairn will survive and measures 30m in diameter.

The monument is of national importance because it is a fine field monument and is of particular interest since the burial chamber is well preserved and is entered from one side; it is of further importance because pollen potentially preserved in the underlying old ground surface would preserve information about the vegetation and farming practices of the period immediately preceding its construction.
