The monument comprises an enclosure and scooped settlement of later prehistoric date. The monument was first scheduled in 1972, but the original scheduling documents for this monument contained a mapping error: the present rescheduling rectifies this.
The monument lies in rough grassland on the lower NW slopes of Craig Head, at around 220m OD. It consists of a scooped settlement measuring about 45m by about 30m, defined on the NW and SW by a stony bank measuring about 3.5m wide and elsewhere by occasional facing-stones. The interior of the settlement is divided into two scooped courts on the W and four house platforms on the E. The two scooped courts are divided by a passage aligned with the settlement entrance, which is to the W. Within the southerly scooped court, a small circular feature measuring about 5m in diameter marks the position of a house stance. Scooped settlements of this type are thought to date to the Iron Age. About 40m to the NNE of the scooped settlement is another enclosure measuring about 35m by about 27m, defined by a stony bank measuring about 3.5m wide. There are no discernible internal features and the entrance, measuring about 2m wide, is on the W. Immediately to the NNE of this enclosure are the possible remains of another enclosure. Two curving banks to the W of the modern field boundary partially enclose an area measuring about 15m NNE-SSW. To the E of the modern field boundary, these banks cannot be traced.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is irregular in shape, with maximum dimensions of 200m NNE-SSW by 70m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract. The scheduled area is bordered on the SW by a track and on the NE by a field wall. The above-ground elements of the chicken coop which has been erected within the settlement are specifically excluded from this scheduling.
