The monument consists of the remains of a chapel called Teampull Ronaidh.
The chapel is situated on the summit of a slight eminence overlooking the sea to the N. It survives as a stony, sub-rectangular raised mound. It is orientated E to W and measures 8m E-W by 6m N-S. The site is divided by a croft boundary fence. It is locally believed to be the oldest church site in Northern Lewis. The chapel was listed by Martin (writing c.1695) as the church of St Ronan.
The area to be scheduled is square and measures a maximum of 20m squared centred on the chapel as marked in red on the accompanying map. The modern fence is excluded from the scheduling.

The monument is of national importance because it preserves archaeological evidence which may increase our knowledge of the spread of the early Celtic Church in the Outer Isles. Local tradition affords the site an importance out of all measure with its physical extent.
