Description

The monument comprises three hut circles of prehistoric date visible as a series of earthworks in rough pasture.

The monument lies in the hills on the E side of Strathardle at around 270m OD. It comprises three hut circles, each measuring some 8-10m in internal diameter within walls spread to between 1.5-2.5m, and up to around 0.5m high. Occasional facing stones are visible in the walls.

The SE hut circle is clipped on its S arc by the modern field boundary, a second hut circle joins it immediately to the N, while the third in the group lies some 20m to the NW. Each represents the remains of a substantial roundhouse of later prehistoric date.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the remains described above and an area around them within which associated deposits may be expected to survive. It is irregular in shape, measuring 70m between its northernmost and southernmost points, and 70m between its easternmost and westernmost points, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract. The scheduling excludes above-ground elements of modern field boundaries and gates.
