The monument comprises an unenclosed settlement of prehistoric date, visible as a series of cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs.
The monument lies in arable farmland at around 20m OD on the W side of the Cairnie Pow. It comprises two crescent-shaped cropmarks, located only a few metres apart, each measuring approximately 14m in maximum diameter. Such cropmarks are characteristic of timber roundhouses of the later prehistoric period.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to survive. It is irregular in shape with maximum dimensions of 80m NE-SW by 50m NW-SE, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract. Above-ground elements of modern fences are excluded from the scheduling.
